G-9</HistoricalNote></MarginalNote><TitleText><XRefExternal reference-type="act">Governor General’s Act</XRefExternal></TitleText></Heading><Section type="amending"><Label>1</Label><Text>The title of Part II of the <XRefExternal reference-type="act">Governor General’s Act</XRefExternal> is replaced by the following:</Text><AmendedText><Heading level="1"><TitleText>Governor General’s Retiring Annuity <Ins>and Other Benefits</Ins></TitleText></Heading></AmendedText><ExplanatoryNote><TitleText><XRefExternal reference-type="act">Governor General’s Act</XRefExternal></TitleText><Label><Emphasis style="italic">Clause 1</Emphasis>:</Label><ExplanatoryText>Existing text of the title:</ExplanatoryText><ExistingText><Heading level="1"><TitleText>Governor General’s Retiring Annuity</TitleText></Heading></ExistingText></ExplanatoryNote></Section><Section type="amending"><Label>2</Label><Subsection><Label>(1)</Label><Text>The portion of subsection 6(1) of the Act before paragraph (a) is replaced by the following:</Text><AmendedText><Section><MarginalNote>Annuity</MarginalNote><Label>6</Label><Subsection><Label>(1)</Label><Text><Ins>When</Ins> a Governor General <Ins>who has held</Ins> office <Ins>for at least five consecutive years</Ins> ceases to hold office as such, there shall be paid to him an annuity equal to the aggregate of</Text></Subsection></Section></AmendedText><ExplanatoryNote><Label><Emphasis style="italic">Clause 2</Emphasis>: (1)</Label><ExplanatoryText>Text of the relevant portion of subsection 6(1):</ExplanatoryText><ExistingText><Section><Label>6</Label><Subsection><Label>(1)</Label><Text>Where a Governor General ceases to hold office as such, there shall be paid to him an annuity equal to the aggregate of</Text></Subsection></Section></ExistingText></ExplanatoryNote></Subsection><Subsection type="amending"><Label>(2)</Label><Text>The Act is amended by adding the following after subsection 6(1):</Text><AmendedText change="ins"><Subsection><MarginalNote>Medical reasons</MarginalNote><Label>(1.1)</Label><Text>A Governor General who, in the opinion of the Governor in Council, is unable for medical reasons to serve for five consecutive years is deemed to have served for at least five consecutive years for the purpose of subsection (1).</Text></Subsection></AmendedText></Subsection><ExplanatoryNote><Label>(2)</Label><ExplanatoryText>New.</ExplanatoryText></ExplanatoryNote></Section><Section type="amending"><Label>3</Label><Text>The Act is amended by adding the following after section 11:</Text><AmendedText change="ins"><Section><MarginalNote>Other benefits</MarginalNote><Label>12</Label><Text>No money shall be paid out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund for the purpose of providing administrative support to or reimbursing expenses incurred by a former Governor General who held office for less than five consecutive years.</Text></Section></AmendedText><ExplanatoryNote><Label><Emphasis style="italic">Clause 3</Emphasis>:</Label><ExplanatoryText>New.</ExplanatoryText></ExplanatoryNote></Section><Heading level="1" type="transitional"><TitleText>Transitional Provision</TitleText></Heading><Section type="transitional"><MarginalNote>Former Governor General</MarginalNote><Label>4</Label><Subsection><Label>(1)</Label><Text>The payment, under Part II of the <XRefExternal reference-type="act">Governor General’s Act</XRefExternal> as it read immediately before the day on which this Act comes into force, of an annuity to a former Governor General who held office for less than five consecutive years ceases on the day on which this Act comes into force.</Text></Subsection><Subsection><MarginalNote>Survivor</MarginalNote><Label>(2)</Label><Text>The payment, under Part II of the <XRefExternal reference-type="act">Governor General’s Act</XRefExternal> as it read immediately before the day on which this Act comes into force, of an annuity to a survivor shall continue during the life of the survivor.</Text></Subsection></Section></Body></Bill>
