An Act to amend the Broadcasting Act (independence of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation)
1991, c. 11
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
1. Section 36 of the Broadcasting Act is amended by adding the following after subsection (3):
Ground for removal
(3.1) For the purposes of subsection (3), in addition to the grounds for removal generally recognized by law, the exertion of political pressure on Corporation staff constitutes a ground for removal.
2. Subsection 46(5) of the Act is replaced by the following:
Independence
(5) The Corporation shall, in the pursuit of its objects and in the exercise of its powers, enjoy freedom of expression and journalistic, creative and programming independence. The Corporation shall take the necessary measures to preserve that freedom and independence.
