The Joint Interparliamentary Council met in camera this day at 4:16 p.m., in room 356 S of the Centre Block, Mr. Bruce Stanton, MP, presiding.

Representing the Senate: Hon. Dennis Dawson, Senator.

Representing the House of Commons: Robert Aubin for Rachel Blaney, Hon. David McGuinty for the Hon. Mark Holland, Scott Simms, Linda Lapointe, MPs.

Others present Chairs and Co-Chairs of Parliamentary Associations: Senator Massicotte, Senator and member of the Canada-Japan Parliamentary Association.

Also in attendance:

From the International and Interparliamentary Affairs Directorate: Patrice Martin, Deputy Principal Clerk, Parliamentary Associations;

From the House of Commons: Stefany Rockburn, Senior Financial Advisor, Policy and Financial Planning.

From the Library of Parliament: Marcus Pistor, Senior Director, Economics, Resources and International Affairs Division. Christine Ivory, Chief, International Affairs, International Affairs Section


1. Approval of Minutes:

The minutes of the meeting of May 30, 2018 were approved.


2. Canada-Japan Symposium:

Senator Massicotte made a presentation on the Symposium on Canada-Japan Trade and Investment Relations, held in Vancouver on March 17, 2018 and answered questions.


3. Code of Conduct:

The clerk presented the draft Code of Conduct. It was agreed that the Council continue its review at its next meeting.


4. Request for official recognition of Canada-Lebanon Friendship:

Group After debate, it was agreed that the Canada-Lebanon friendship group not be granted the status of recognized inter-parliamentary group.


5. New IIA web site:

The Deputy Principal Clerk gave an update of the new web site and answered questions.


At 5:35 p.m., the Council adjourned to the call of the Co-Chairs.
