An Act to amend the Criminal Code and the Modernization of Benefits and Obligations Act

      Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

R.S., c. C-46

CRIMINAL CODE

1. The definition ``child'' in section 214 of the Criminal Code is replaced by the following:

``child''
« enfant »

``child'' includes an adopted child or a child born of persons who were not married to each other at the time of the birth;

MODERNIZATION OF BENEFITS AND OBLIGATIONS ACT

2. Section 340 of the Modernization of Benefits and Obligations Act is amended by adding the following after subsection (2):

(2.1) Subsection 89(1), to the extent that it replaces paragraph (b) of the definition ````Inuk of Fort George'' or ``Inuit of Fort George'''' in subsection 2(1) of the Cree-Naskapi (of Quebec) Act, comes into force on December 31, 2001.
