An Act to amend the Criminal Code (murder of an intimate partner, one’s own child or an intimate partner’s child)

His Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

R.‍S.‍, c. C-46

Criminal Code

1Section 231 of the Criminal Code is amended by adding the following after subsection (4):

Murder — intimate partner or child

Start of inserted block
(4.‍1)Irrespective of whether a murder is planned and deliberate on the part of a person, murder is first degree murder when the victim is the person’s intimate partner, the person’s own child or the child of the person’s intimate partner.
