An Act to amend the Employment Insurance Act (protecting the Employment Insurance Operating Account)
1996, c. 23
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
1. The Employment Insurance Act is amended by adding the following after section 70.2:
Minister’s obligation
70.3 The Minister shall not cause to be introduced in Parliament a bill that would close the Employment Insurance Operating Account without the prior unanimous consent of the members of the Commission to do so.
2. The Act is amended by adding the following after section 75:
Use of amounts credited to the Account
75.1 An amount credited to the Employment Insurance Operating Account may only be used for the purposes of this Act.
3. Section 77 of the Act is amended by adding the following after subsection (1):
For greater certainty
(1.1) For greater certainty, any amount paid out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund and charged to the Employment Insurance Operating Account shall be paid only for the purposes of paragraphs (1)(a) to (g).
