An Act respecting the establishment of a National Strategy for Autism Spectrum Disorders
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
SHORT TITLE
Short title
1. This Act may be cited as the National Strategy for Autism Spectrum Disorders Act.
NATIONAL STRATEGY FOR AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS
Obligation
2. The Government of Canada must establish a national strategy for autism spectrum disorders that includes:
(a) the establishment, in cooperation with the provincial governments, of national standards for the treatment of autism spectrum disorders and the delivery of related services;
(b) the study, in cooperation with the provincial governments, of the funding arrangements for the care of those with autism spectrum disorders, including the possibility of transferring federal funds to assist the provincial governments in providing treatment, education, professional training and other required supports for Canadians with autism spectrum disorders free of charge and within a reasonable period of time;
(c) the creation of a national medical surveillance program for autism spectrum disorders, to be managed by the Public Health Agency of Canada; and
(d) an estimate of the funding required for health research into treatments for autism spectrum disorders and for the delivery of related services.

Coming into force
3. This Act comes into force on the day following the day it receives royal assent.
