Tuesday, March 2, 1999

The Standing Joint Committee on Official Languages met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Co-Chair, The Hon. Sheila Finestone, presiding.

Members of the Committee present:

Representing the Senate: The Hon. Joan Fraser, The Hon. Jean-Claude Rivest and The Hon. Louis J. Robichaud.

Representing the House of Commons: Mauril Bélanger, The Hon. Sheila Finestone, Inky Mark, Denis Paradis, Louis Plamondon, The Hon. Andy Scott and Angela Vautour.

Other Senator present: The Hon. Jean-Maurice Simard.

In attendance: From the Senate: Tonu Onu, Co-clerk; From the Library of Parliament: Françoise Coulombe, Researcher.

Witness: From the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages: Victor Goldbloom, Commissioner of Official Languages.

Pursuant to S.O. 108(4)(b), study on the application of Part VII of the Official Languages Act.

The witness made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 5:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
